Anxiety Help - Non-Medication Anxiety Treatment and Relief

Non-Medication Anxiety Treatment and Relief

Does anybody know of some methods to aid in coping with Anxiety and Panic Attacks?

A couple of anxiety treatments that provide relief for me are: breathing techniques and, believe it or not, worry beads.

The breathing technique I use is called 2 for 1. You basically take a 2 count inhalation, slowly, through the nose, then, slowly, very slowly, release it through the lips for a 4 count. Then you move up to 3 and 6. Then 4 and 8. Usually I go up to 5 and 10. Then go back to the 2 and 4 again.

Anxiety Help - Anxiety Disorder Association of America

Anxiety Disorder Association of America

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) helped calm their fears when Lisa and David were told that their beautiful four year old daughter suffered from childhood anxiety.

"We were devastated at first," said Lisa. "We thought that we were bad parents or that we had done something horrible to cause this condition in our daughter. After talking to the ADAA we realized that anxiety is a disease that needs treatment just like diabetes or heart disease.

Working with a therapist, Lisa and David discovered that children and teens have anxiety in their lives, just as adults do, and they can suffer from anxiety disorders in much the same way.

Anxiety medication is too costly. What can I do? My dog has been known to throw herself into the door of her cage (and hurt herself badly) because of her anxiety. She is normally a VERY quiet and passive dog. I called the vet and just to bring her in to get sedatives would cost me upwards of $300. I just cant afford it.

Sedatives WILL NOT cost $300. You need a new vet.

Benadryl can sometimes make dogs a little sleepy and can be given at 1mg per pound of body weight twice daily.

I did not have this so much with my first baby, but did notice it with the second.

Anxiety Help - How Can I Overcome Anxiety Attacks?

How Can I Overcome Anxiety Attacks?

How do you overcome anxiety attacks without medication?

There are several different theories on how one can overcome anxiety attacks. The best (and by best I mean most effective shown by research) is through some cognitive-behavioral therapy. First you have to identify your triggers (not only what causes your anxiety attacks, but also the ONE main cause for why you are having the anxiety attacks in the first place).

For example, if you think you are going to go crazy during an anxiety attack, you can replace that thought with I have had these kinds of attacks probably 100s of times and I have never gone crazy before or never fainted before or whatever the case may be.

Take Joan, for example. Everything in her environment seemed so perfect on that balmy spring afternoon that Joan could never have imagined that anxiety panic disorder was about to change her life forever.

The kids brought home excellent report cards, her patio was filled with the satisfying aroma of steaks on the grill and the flower garden that she and her husband had planted the month before was in full bloom.

Deciding to cut some fresh flowers to brighten up the dinner table, Joan walked into the house to get her gardening sheers when suddenly she was gripped by anxiety panic disorder which caused an intense paralyzing fear like nothing she had ever known.

Anxiety Help - Overcoming Anxiety Attacks without Medication

Overcoming Anxiety Attacks without Medication

How do you overcome anxiety attacks without medication?

I used to have anxiety attacks semi-frequently. I really focus in on my breathing because sometimes I can stop an oncoming anxiety attack if I take deeper, longer breaths and shut my eyes.

Sometimes, if I can, I go for a walk or even open a window and pace for a bit to try to get out some of the anxiety and nervous energy I feel. If I'm in a crowded place during an anxiety attack, I usually go into the bathroom to just try to calm myself.

Worried Sick: The Torment Associated With Health Anxiety

The six percent of Americans who suffer from health anxiety worry pointlessly and painfully about dangers that do not exist.

Reassurance by doctors provides no comfort for people with health anxiety. In fact a person with health anxiety is like to go from doctor to doctor, distrusting what they say, yet demanding more and more attention and diagnostic tests. Their behavior may seem ridiculous to others, even to themselves, but their distress is very real.

According to the Anxiety and Phobia Treatment Center at White Plains Medical Center, treatment is directed at changing perceptions. The person with health anxiety has to learn how to live with the ordinary ups and downs of life before they can live as comfortably as other people.

Cure for Blood Anxiety

Here are some suggestions to cure your anxiety:

Remember there is a LOT of blood in your body, which will be replaced immediately when a tiny amount of it is taken out for testing.

Watch programs like Nip Tuck before going to give blood. It is all made up artificially and is hysterically funny. If it bothers you watching the false stuff, just think that at least you aren't going through that and giving a bit of blood is not so hard after all.

Couples Dealing with Anxiety Disorder

I went through the Lucinda Basset 15 week program and it has helped me a lot but I'm still struggling with it.

For example we may misinterpret each other and in the process of trying to explain myself I may become withdrawn. He gets mad because I'm not saying anything then tries to get an answer from me. That's when I'll overreact and scream out something like leave me alone. He's not perfect either and he knows that.

Anyone with anxiety disorder have advice? Does anyone living in New York City know of a place where I can get affordable therapy or good therapy for this?

Well, I certainly don't live in a war zone, but there is enough coverage of the war to make anyone squirm.

I basically read the newspaper to avoid the talking heads on TV yelling at each other to advance their own political agenda. And, when reading the newspaper, I try to read only the news, and not the editorials and columnists.

This way, the news comes in a bit more focused and I can zoom in on reality rather than dwell on hysteria and fall into stress and anxiety.

Dog with Anxiety Attacks

My husbands German Shepherd is going to be 7 this year and he has chronic anxiety attacks - not separation anxiety.

If we go outside all together, he runs around whimpering and pacing the yard. If we light a fire, he freaks out. Yesterday, we took him on a picnic and he was freaked out in the car, at the picnic table, etc.

He was neglected for the first 5 years by my husband's ex-wife, and my husband used to travel frequently. Now, the dof lives in a loving home where our three dogs are house dogs, sit on the furniture and sleep on the beds with us, but Sam just won't relax and it's so annoying that after a while I stop being so sympathetic.
