Anxiety Help - Anxiety Disorder - Physical Symptoms

Anxiety Disorder - Physical Symptoms

Ive been having trouble breathing, rapid heart beats, and Ive been totally out of breath whenever I do anything cardio such as even walking up a bunch of stairs.

But can anxiety cause you to feel totally lazy and winded and make your heart beat faster and tired? If this anxiety disorder continues, can I permanently damage my heart or lungs?

I hope I can help. Ordinarily, I am not a big fan of pharmaceuticals, but when I found myself in a similar predicament my doctor prescribed a low dosage anti-depressant and I was able to function until I could address the root cause of the anxiety disorder. A pill is by no means the answer, any more that a splint is the cure for a broken leg; but it can be of some temporary help.

Anxiety Attack Symptoms

When Im driving I feel dizzy and I feel like Im going to have a heart attack. I have been on anti anxiety medication before but it never helps!

I too deal with these anxiety symptoms, but much more severe.

I began taking Topomax for the panic attacks, but I would suggest starting out at a low dosage because the day I started at 100mg I had a major panic attack.

Anxiety Help - Anxiety Disorder Association of America

Anxiety Disorder Association of America

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) helped calm their fears when Lisa and David were told that their beautiful four year old daughter suffered from childhood anxiety.

"We were devastated at first," said Lisa. "We thought that we were bad parents or that we had done something horrible to cause this condition in our daughter. After talking to the ADAA we realized that anxiety is a disease that needs treatment just like diabetes or heart disease.

Working with a therapist, Lisa and David discovered that children and teens have anxiety in their lives, just as adults do, and they can suffer from anxiety disorders in much the same way.

Anxiety Disorder - Mental Hospital

Does my Mom have the authority to place me in a mental hospital for having certain fears, anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Some of my mental conditions are fear of riding in a car, checking locks on the doors more than once, afraid of big cities, afraid of bugs, washing my hands constantly, etc.

I've NEVER been a danger to myself or others and I've never had any medical history problems with mental health.

Anxiety Help - Cure for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Cure for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a key component of treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. Especially effective is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which examines distortions in thinking that lead to psychological problems and can help you retrain your reactions to stress and anxiety.

Generalized anxiety disorder commonly responds to certain drugs, such as antidepressants of the family that includes Prozac and Paxil, and anti anxiety medications such as Xanax and Valium. However, medication generally is recommended only as a temporary measure to relieve symptoms at the beginning of the treatment process, with psychotherapy the key to long-term success.

See the Mayo Clinics article on treatment for GAD for a discussion of drug alternatives and psychotherapy, as well as Psych Centrals site on generalized anxiety disorder treatment.

Anxiety Help - Lab Has Separation Anxiety

Lab Has Separation Anxiety

I have a five year-old female lab. I cannot leave her at my parents home in the fenced yard which is a huge farm. When I go in the house she freaks out and starts jumping on the windows and sliding door until I get back out there. When Im outside with her she is fine; she practically ignores me and plays or brings me the ball to throw.

Yes, she IS terribly afraid she is going to be separated from you. Having other dogs or people around doesn't mean the dog cannot suffer from separation anxiety, even in their presence, because the problem stems from her emotional dependence on you.

1. Read the book, I'll Be Home Soon by Patricia McConnell. You can order it from Amazon for about $6. It's a quick read and will give you better background on separation anxiety.

Anxiety Help - What Causes Anxiety?

What Causes Anxiety?

Because of the dynamic impact that anxiety can have on families, many believe that if they can get to the root cause of their anxiety then they will have a better chance of overcoming it.

Some researchers believe that genetics play a role in anxiety. Many sufferers say that they remember their father or mother often seeming "anxious" or "inhibited."

"When you are filling your mind with worrisome thoughts, it is difficult to concentrate on anything else (like finding a solution to your problems.) These worried or negative thoughts are often tied to that little negative person that lives in our head."

Also some pains in leg, back of head and dizziness and headaches? And comes and goes worse during anxiety. It usually starts about a week before a weird sensation in my throat.

Sounds like you have GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).

Separation Anxiety - Normal for Two-Year-Old?

My husband and I both work. I went back to work when my daughter was four months old, so she's used to us both leaving in the morning and staying with the nanny.

We changed nannies about two months ago, and right about that time her reaction when we would leave in the morning became very severe - crying so hard, screaming, clinging to me as if for dear life.

One might think that the new nanny is being abusive, but it's not the case. When we come home, she's very happy, she hugs the nanny, she's had a good day and her appetite and sleeping patterns are normal.

What can I do for performance anxiety?

I almost feel ashamed of being noticed. But after two minutes I am normal. I have tried every possible relaxation technique on the web and off. Can someone help, please?

If you are interested in medication treatment, Beta Blockers can be very effective. Taken in small doses shortly before one anticipates having to perform or do a public presentation, they can do an AWESOME job in helping to control the autonomic symptoms of performance anxiety (rapid heart rate, sweating, heavy breathing/hyperventilating, feeling flushed).

Couples Dealing with Anxiety Disorder

I went through the Lucinda Basset 15 week program and it has helped me a lot but I'm still struggling with it.

For example we may misinterpret each other and in the process of trying to explain myself I may become withdrawn. He gets mad because I'm not saying anything then tries to get an answer from me. That's when I'll overreact and scream out something like leave me alone. He's not perfect either and he knows that.

Anyone with anxiety disorder have advice? Does anyone living in New York City know of a place where I can get affordable therapy or good therapy for this?

Anxiety Disorder Triggered by Overnight Stay

I have had an anxiety disorder since childhood that comes and goes. It has always been triggered by staying at peoples houses unless its my mom or grandmother. I cant sleep and I end up gagging and throwing up. I was on Zoloft until I was no longer on my parents insurance. Now, two years later I am finally able to have insurance but cant see a doctor for another week.

This is really something you need to go through with a therapist.

Anxiety Help - Can Dogs Have Separation Anxiety?

Can Dogs Have Separation Anxiety?

Absolutely; your dog is either having separation anxiety, or OCD symptoms.

You need to do three things: Buy a crate, and work on crate training him so that he has a safe, comfy place to retreat to when you are gone. You can put his favorite bed, toy or treat into the crate. This provides a place for him to calm down and alleviates separation anxiety.

Get him into an obedience class. Basic obedience is a good structure to build from. Then you need to find a dog trainer to help you work with his separation anxiety problems.

You need to speak with your vet about his behavior, after you have set him up with the crate and training. Allow your vet to make any recommendations about medication for separation anxiety.
